The flaw is that the trammel beam is mounted directly over the spindle hole and attached at a fixed angle. As a result of the fixed angle of the alignment grid with the trammel beam, the outer null-point varies depending on tonearm length. The Clearaudio alignment tool is basically identical to VPI's alignment tools in this regard. Furthermore, you can use Seb's equation to determine the outer null-point if you know the grid angle, the inner null-point and your tonearm's mounting distance.
